Mariam Jimoh came to prominence for many when she won the £10k top prize in 2019 from Conna Walker’s CBWOMEN4WOMEN fund. Her business – My-Oja.com – is a simple and brilliant App service that brings together local, minority-owned food stores to enable people to shop for what they want, when they want it, and have it delivered to their door.

Mariam says the App idea was close to her heart ever since she moved out of her parents’ house and into a place of her own . ‘In all honesty, it was the product of a combination of all the fabulous black women in my life from idea to conception! Sometimes you just need ingredients from your local African Caribbean store or fresh fish from the Chinese supermarket and Waitrose can’t help!’ The App is now ready and Mariam says she’s just ‘stocking-up on the stores’ for the launch of the Beta version.

Championing black women is something Mariam has a lot of experience with. Prior to launching My-Oja.com, Mariam founded WCAN, a social enterprise that specialises in working with black female students and young professionals. The end-goal is to help them progress their careers. She has also collaborated with AccelerateHER. Aside from the companies she has founded, she picked up a slug of financial expertise from her time as an Investment Banking analyst at Rothschild & Co in 2017/2018.
